'Wovine Bovine' is a reflection of the artists' love of flax weaving and sculpture. It also reflects her maori ancestry. When working with the flax or 'harakeke' the artist tried to sustain certain weaving protocols - saying a prayer before cutting the flax, returning the unused flax back to the flax bush, not cutting the flax when it is raining. Weaving protocols are different for every weaver and most ensure the livelihood of the plant. Approximately 600 flax leaves were cut to complete Wovine Bovine. Although the weaving process is time consuming, she enjoyed using harakeke because it is a natural fibre and has the most beautiful smell when working with it.
