10/ 31/ 02 Have you ‘herd’ about CowParade Auckland 2003?

Time to get in the ‘moood’ for some ‘udderly fabulous’ art

They’ve stampeded through Zurich, Chicago, New York, London and Sydney – now the bovine beauties of CowParade Auckland 2003 are on their way!

From January to April 2003, artists from the acclaimed to the amateur, are being called to paint, transform and sculpt life-sized fibreglass cows in preparation for CowParade Auckland 2003. Then moove over Aucklanders, as the herd of 35 painted, costumed, festooned and whimsically transformed cows take to the city streets and buildings from January 2003.

“From ‘Picowsso’ and ‘Moona Lisa’, to ‘Cowapatra’ and ‘Bovine Boogie’, the cows of past CowParades have proven incredibly successful, not only in taking art to the people, but also resulting in fabulous programs of civic spirit,” said Liz Smith of CowParade Auckland. “We anticipate CowParade Auckland 2003 will be a great public display of bovine art that everyone can enjoy. It will also highlight some of the ‘udderly’ fabulous artistic talent we have in this country.”

Individuals and businesses can also support CowParade Auckland 2003 by becoming patrons and adopting from one to an unlimited number of cows. Patrons can select from CowParades’ portfolio of Artists’ designs or commission an artist of their choice, with the design approved by CowParade Auckland 2003. Brass plaques showing the Patron, Artist and Cow’s name will then be permanently affixed to the base of each cow.

“This is a great opportunity for New Zealand businesses to gain exposure and recognition in a very unique way,” said Ms Smith. “It is anticipated there may also be other business advantages. For example, merchants who participated as patrons in the Chicago Parade saw sales grow by an average of 28%.”

Patrons adopt the cows for the duration of the exhibition. Adoption prices for the Auckland Parade begin at a very reasonable $10,000 plus GST per cow.
At the conclusion of the display, some of the cows will be sold at a live and charity internet auction with the net proceeds benefiting Cow Parade Auckland’s charities (yet to be selected).

Beginning in Zurich in 1998, CowParade mooved to Chicago and New York in 1999 and 2000 respectively with great success. In fact, over 44 million people viewed the New York event and the Chicago event generated nearly $500 million in economic impact. This year Parades have been held in Sydney and London.

CowParade Auckland is being run and managed by Heart of the City, the lobby and promotions group for retailers in Auckland’s CBD.
